Browner was the first dog to hunt at Quail Hill. Roger and him were inseparatable until the day he died in 2003. He was a hunting machine and would hunt with anyone just to be in the field. This is a rare photo of him on point on our Brown House property with a pheasant in the grass. He took many trophies in his day and leaves behind many off spring. Several hunting preserves in Pennsylvania have Browners pups as guides on their properties. He was phenomenal and is sorely missed by us and our hunters.

 Quail Hill Dog Training

Dog training is done by men trained in the Delmar Smith method of training.

Your Dog will be cared for with love and patience. We have 15 Dogs on the property for use in Hunting so we know how much they mean to you. They are part of the family.  They are like our kids. And that is how we treat them, as we would our children--grandchildren.  We sure do love them.

Training is by the month and most dogs are done with the basic training at that time.  Some take longer because of the attachment to you and being left with you no where in sight. We take that special time to get to know the dog and show him the same attention he would receive at home before we start the training. It is important to train in steps. A good hunting dog knows how to hunt, and obeys your commands.  We want your hunting experience to be enjoyable, so we want your companion to be obedient. To come when asked, to whoa when commanded, to stay when needed. If you have an obedient dog then you will enjoy him so much more and he will only try harder to please you. When put into the Hunting training for a finished dog he will be steady to wing and shot, He will retrieve and he will whoa, back and be steady on point. A flushing dog will hup when commanded [ sit] and wait for you to enter the area before he flushes the bird on your command. A started dog will quarter in the field, whoa and come when commanded. He will mark the bird down.

Our dogs have won several trophies and plaques. We have a national champion [Sasse] that you may choose to hunt over.

Sasse's awards and 2 of her 1st place national trophies.  There is also a picture of our place years ago

Ken has been with us for over 2 years. He has started dog training with Roger and has guided last year.  Zoey is one of his trained clients. We are happy with the time and desire he has for dog training. In the end we know he will be an acomplished trainer and guide. Along with German Shorhairs, he has trained Vesilas, Brittanys, and Setters and Pointing Labs. If you need your dog trained or conditioned for the hunting field then you can consider Ken along with Roger.

This is Paul and his dog Petey. Paul is now a guide for us. He came here to hunt with a friend and was hooked. His first dog Molly died a few years back but her memory lives on here at Quail Hill forever.

Petey was trained [as was Molly] by Roger. He is a great trainer.

 Dog Training Prices

A trained dog. We use quail to start the Dog traing stairts at $350.00 per month plus birds for the training on then Chukar and Pheasant. To finish your dog it just takes time and a lot of repititon

We take you on a training session when you pick up your dog.

It  is similar to a short hunt but only lasts about an hour You will need to be trained along with your dog.

Individual training of you with your dog is $50.00 per hour

Specialty training is a flat $300.00

 And Backing is another $300.00

If you have a dog that is gun shy, we will work with him/her for a fee of $300.00 per month. This is a long drawn out affair and could take several months.  That is why it is so important to train the dog right the first time and do it in the steps it needs to be done. It costs more to fix the problem to do it right the first time.

A finished dog could take up to 3 months and cost $1000.00 plus and the cost of the birds.
